Euro-Mediterranean Relationships: from the Barcelona Agenda to the Union for the Mediterranean

In the framework of the Jean Monnet Action (project No 141387–LLP–1-2008-1-IT-AJM-IC), the Department of Financial and Economic Sciences (DI.S.E.FIN.), University of Genoa, Italy, is organizing a three-day conference on multilateral cooperation between European Union and its Mediterranean Partners.
The project aims to discuss and highlight how joint commitment and policies may contribute to the fulfilment of the goals of the Union for the Mediterranean: to launch and/or to reinforce a number of key initiatives:

The starting point of the research could be a judgement on the Barcelona objectives: to create an area of peace, stability, security and shared prosperity, as well as full respect of democratic principles, human rights and fundamental freedoms and promotion of understanding between cultures and civilizations in the Euro-Mediterranean region;
Area of Interest -The conference aims to bring together researchers from different subject areas to discuss the different aspects of the Union for the Mediterranean from the following starting points: Economics, Finance, Environmental Sciences, Policies and Politics, History and so on.

First Paper Submission: January 2009
Second Call for papers: January 2009
Last Paper Submission: March 2009
Selection of the first papers during the Workshop on “Mediterranean Relations”: March 6th , University of Genoa
Final selection: April 2009
Paper Acceptance: May 2009
Conference: June 2009

Submission

People interested in participating should submit to this e-mail address jm.euromed@gmail.com a draft paper (up to 300 words) by the deadlines given above and the final version (5000-7000 words) by March 2009. Each submission should indicate a list of relevant areas from the mentioned above.
Applicants will be notified about the status of their submissions by March 31st , 2009.

The best chosen contributions will be published both on the website “The Euro - Mediterranean Observatory”, and in form of papers on high rank international reviews and in form of a book published by a University outstanding publishing house.
